In the year 1994 Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum issued a landmark Decree for the launching of the Holy Qur’án Memorization Project in the Emirate of Dubai, under the supervision of the Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Department.
The Project was meant to serve as a nucleus or seed that would provide the Emirate of Dubai with fruits that would nurture the young generation of Muslims on correct Qur’ánic morals and manners.. The Project, by the grace of Alláh, has not only struck deep roots but is also gaining ascendance. It has, moreover, established itself in the Islamic world as a successful example of a project cast in the Qur’ánic mould.
In the year 2008, the department running the Maktoum Qur’án Memorization Project was accredited to the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, Dubai.
The number of permanent Holy Qur’án Memorization Circles, fpr both male and female students, operating in different mosques of the Emirate has almost reached 60, while the number of male and female students attending these circles now touches the figure of 1,000.
