Brief history of IACAD

The Department of Endowments in Dubai established on October 24, 1969, by the decree issued by the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and the Department began to expand gradually until the Law No. (7) Of 1994 on issuing the Endowments and Islamic Affairs, followed by Law No. (2) Of 2011 on issuing the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), which included the functions and policies of the Department, which based on three axes: charitable work, Islamic affairs, mosques Affairs. 


Tasks of IACAD

The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD) is responsible for drawing up the general policy for Islamic affairs and charitable work in the Emirate of Dubai, according to Law No. (2) Of 2011 on the establishment of the Department. 
IACAD works on spreading the Islamic knowledge, developing the Islamic religious awareness. The department supervises the religious recordings, printing, and the distribution, in addition to supervising the authorization of curricula, preparation of the Hijri calendar and authorizes its printing.
The Department is also responsible for issuing the licenses for charitable societies, Islamic institutions and centers for memorizing the Holy Quran, in addition to issuing licenses for Islamic research and studies centers, IACAD supervises them administratively and financially. 
IACAD also supervises and licenses private expense mosques, Islamic celebrations, seminars, conferences, exhibitions and religious competitions, in order to highlight the advantages of the Islamic religion.
The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai also organizes Hajj and Umrah affairs in coordination with the concerned authorities in the UAE, in addition to organizing the affairs of the Fatwa, raising awareness of the Zakat obligation, donations and charity, and spending it in its prescribed places.
 

Objectives of IACAD

The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai seeks to achieve its strategic plan for the years 2018-2021, where the strategic includes a set of objectives distributed on main five axes:
1 - Global Islamic leadership
2 - Pioneering and innovative charity work 
3 - Sustainable mosques 
4 - Efficient and happy work environment
5 - Effective corporate governance

In line with international best practices, IACAD aspires, through its developed strategy, to create a harmonious society, aware of Islam and charity, through institutions and centers that are influential and socially effective and achieve the happiness of those who are concerned.
