A generous donor has paid AED 29,617 to cover the cost of treatment for “Um Hamid,” who has been suffering for years from hepatitis B. Recently, her symptoms worsened significantly, but due to her family’s limited financial means and difficult circumstances, they were unable to afford the necessary treatment. She received medical care at the Internal Medicine Clinic at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi.
The donation was coordinated through the “Hotline” service in collaboration with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, which ensured the amount was transferred to the relevant authorities to secure urgent treatment.
Um Hamid’s husband expressed deep gratitude to the donor for her support during this challenging time. He noted that such generosity is not unusual in the UAE, where people consistently show compassion and solidarity with humanitarian cases, extending a helping hand to those in need.
Emarat Al Youm had previously published the story of the patient’s suffering. According to a medical report from the hospital, she requires monthly medications to manage her health conditions, as she also suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
The report confirmed that she has had liver-related health issues for years. She was recently admitted to the emergency department after experiencing abdominal pain, difficulty moving, and severe fatigue. After undergoing necessary tests, she was diagnosed with hepatitis B.
Doctors stressed the need for her to remain under medical observation in the hospital due to her multiple chronic illnesses. The report also mentioned that she had previously battled breast cancer, which was successfully removed, but her health declined again after being diagnosed with hepatitis.
The total cost of her medical treatment and follow-up over the course of a year is AED 29,617. However, her health insurance does not cover the cost of the essential medications.
Her husband confirmed that he is unable to afford her treatment. Speaking to Emarat Al Youm, he said that she had been suffering from continuous abdominal pain, extreme fatigue, and an inability to eat or carry out household tasks. Concerned for her well-being, he took her to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, where doctors ordered her to remain under observation until her condition stabilized. Upon discharge, she was prescribed several medications, including those for diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol.
He added that he is the sole provider for his family of five, in addition to his son’s family who lives with them. He works in the private sector in Abu Dhabi with a salary of AED 4,500, part of which goes toward paying off bank loans.
