A generous donor has contributed AED 54,000 toward the medical treatment of "Umm Othman," a patient suffering from uterine cancer. However, she still needs AED 271,000 to complete her treatment plan. The patient’s family is facing severe financial hardship and cannot afford any part of the treatment cost.
The donation was coordinated by the "Al Khatt Al Sakhin" (Hotline) initiative in collaboration with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD), ensuring the amount was transferred directly to the patient’s account at Tawam Hospital. This urgent support will allow the immediate commencement of chemotherapy and help avoid any delays that could endanger her life.
Umm Othman expressed deep gratitude to the donor for the kind gesture, stating that such acts of generosity are not unusual from the people of the UAE, who are known for their compassion and support for those in need. She also expressed hope that others would come forward to help cover the remaining treatment costs.
Emarat Al Youm newspaper had published her story on April 30, detailing the struggles of the 67-year-old woman who was diagnosed with uterine cancer about six months ago. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor, and doctors recommended six months of chemotherapy, with the total treatment cost amounting to AED 325,000, in addition to special medications to help manage her condition.
Medical reports from Tawam Hospital stress the urgent need to begin treatment without delay, warning that any postponement in receiving doses and follow-ups could pose a serious threat to her life.
In her account to Emarat Al Youm, Umm Othman shared her experience:
“It all began when I felt severe pain in my lower abdomen. I went with my daughter to a private clinic, where initial tests showed a mass. The doctor advised immediate referral to a public hospital and gave me some painkillers for temporary relief.”
“We went straight to the emergency department at Tawam Hospital in Al Ain, where further tests were done and a biopsy was taken. Two weeks later, the results confirmed I had uterine cancer.”
“I underwent surgery to remove the tumor and stayed in the hospital until my condition stabilized. But the doctors stressed the need for urgent chemotherapy to preserve my health.”
“My doctor informed me that each chemotherapy dose costs AED 54,175, and I need intensive treatment for six months. Unfortunately, we cannot afford these costs. I appeal to kind-hearted people to help me continue my treatment.”
“Our financial situation is extremely difficult. Even covering a small part of the overall cost over the six-month period is beyond our means. One donor has paid AED 54,000, but I still need AED 271,000.”
