Responding to a humanitarian call, a number of philanthropists donated 375,000 AED to cover the necessary medical treatment for Mr. (Abu Dhahya - 62 years old - Iraqi national), who has been suffering from chronic spinal cord damage for over ten years.
The humanitarian initiative was coordinated between the donors and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, where the donated amount was transferred to Rashid Hospital to secure the required spinal cord stimulator device for the patient.
Abu Dhahya expressed his deep gratitude and joy for this humanitarian support, stating that his happiness is indescribable after the required amount for his treatment was completed. He extended his heartfelt thanks to the donors, whether individuals or institutions, who helped end his suffering and brought happiness to his family.
On May 6th, Emirates Today newspaper published a report about Abu Dhahya’s condition, detailing his injury from a work-related accident ten years ago, which led to spinal cord damage. He underwent several surgeries, including the insertion of a plastic vertebra in his neck, followed by the implantation of a stimulator device to prevent his condition from worsening.
With the battery and the medical device recently reaching the end of their lifespan, the patient urgently needed to replace both at a cost of 375,000 AED to avoid serious health complications that could lead to quadriplegia, according to doctors.
Abu Dhahya mentioned that he has been residing in the country for 27 years, supporting a family of three, and has no fixed income except for charitable assistance. He emphasized that the community solidarity in the UAE saved him from an uncertain fate and restored hope in his life.
