Dubai Senior Scholars issues a fatwa on Eid prayer at home during a pandemic

Dubai Senior Scholars Council at the Islamic Affairs and Charitable activities Department in Dubai recently issued a fatwa on praying Eid prayer at home during a pandemic according to the current circumstances.

The fatwa stated: Eid prayer is a confirmed and highly recommended Sunnah, and it must be observed and performed openly, unless if we are prevented from that due to fear for self, wellbeing, property, etc.

In case we are prevented from performing it openly and collectively, such as when there is fear for oneself, due to a pandemic like this, then Eid prayer can be performed at home, individually, or together with your family members living with you in the house.

Eid prayer at home is performed in the same known way of Eid salaah, which is two rak'ahs, with the intention of Eid prayer, and with the extra 6 or 7 takbeers after takbeerat-ul-ihram in the first rak'ah, and with the extra 5 takbeers after the takbeert-ul-qiyaam in the second rak'ah. It is also permissible to perform it with only 3 extra takbeers in each rak'ah. There is no khutbah or sermon of eid when praying at home.

We pray to Allah Almighty to remove this affliction from His servants and all humanity, and to protect us all with His mercy and generosity. Amen.

And Allah knows best
