The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai has announced that charitable associations and institutions in the emirate have begun offering a service to receive donations through cryptocurrencies and virtual assets. This qualitative step reflects the Department’s commitment to fostering innovation in charitable work and enabling the sector to keep pace with global technological and financial developments.

The launch of this service aligns with Dubai’s digital transformation strategy and future-oriented vision, contributing to the development and efficiency of the charitable donation ecosystem, while providing modern options for donors in line with global trends in the virtual assets sector.

This initiative is based on the Department’s general policy for regulating fundraising activities related to virtual assets, which aims to protect donors’ funds, enhance transparency, and ensure compliance with approved regulatory standards. The Department has also organized a series of introductory workshops to clarify the procedures and operational requirements for charities seeking to adopt the service.

In this context, Mohammed Musbeh Dhaahi, Executive Director of the Charitable Work Sector at the Department, stated:

“Launching the service to receive donations through virtual assets reflects our commitment to advancing the charitable work ecosystem in Dubai and providing innovative solutions that facilitate donors’ access to approved charitable channels. At the Department, we are keen to ensure the highest levels of governance and transparency through clear policies and precise regulatory procedures that protect donors and support the sustainability of humanitarian work.”

Dhaahi added: “We invite charitable associations and institutions in the emirate to apply for preliminary authorization to practice this activity, ensuring that the service is delivered within a safe and regulated environment aligned with Dubai’s future directions.”

The Department affirmed that the new service will enhance the readiness of the charitable sector to receive donations through diverse means that meet donors’ needs and further strengthen Dubai’s position as a global hub for innovation in humanitarian work.
